Quick Answer

Punch with X and A, block with LT, and keep an eye on your stamina bar and heart rate. Playing Bruisers 2D Boxing means balancing offense with recovery, then winning by stoppage or on the judges' cards. The buttons below are the default Xbox layout; keyboard play and custom mapping are supported too.

What are the Bruisers 2D Boxing controls for attacking and defending?

The default layout uses X for your left hand, A for your right hand, LT for Block/Feint, and RT for Duck and the body-punch modifier.

Defensive movementRight stick

Hold LT to protect your head. For body defense, combine LT and RT. You can also cancel a punch with Block to feint, or tap Block as a punch lands to open a counter window.

Your guard weakens under repeated hits. Release Block to recover its durability rather than trying to absorb an endless combination. Duck avoids head shots, Slip creates counter opportunities, and Dash helps you enter or leave range.

An alternate preset in the settings moves these actions to other buttons. Movement tools also depend on your fighter: Bully cannot sidestep. Check Bruisers 2D Boxing fighting styles before building your defense around a particular move.

How do Bruisers 2D Boxing keyboard controls work?

Early Access supports keyboard play and custom control mapping, so you can assign the inputs you want to use.

Set up your movement, punches, and defense together so you can reach them during an exchange. The table above uses controller buttons; map the same actions to keys you can hit without looking.

On-screen prompts switch to match your controller, with icons and diagrams for PS4, PS5, Xbox, and Switch Pro pads.

Where do you start the Bruisers 2D Boxing tutorial?

The trainer walks you through the Career Hub step by step, and each fighter style has its own in-ring tutorial.

Start with the in-ring tutorial for the style you want to learn. The hub onboarding covers finding your way around career play; see Bruisers 2D Boxing career when you want to follow that route.

The Game options let you change difficulty, locomotion style, tutorial display, and controller settings. Turn tutorial display on while learning the attack and defense inputs.

How do you fight in Bruisers 2D Boxing and finish your first bout?

Control distance, spend stamina carefully, and answer your opponent's attacks instead of throwing continuously.

Use Quick Play for a practice bout before you take your first career fight.

Choose a fighter in Quick Play

Use RB on the fighter-select screen to switch between fighter categories. Pick a fighter, then learn the tools their style allows before relying on a defensive move.

Begin with distance and measured attacks

Once the bout begins, use movement to manage the gap and attack the head or body without emptying your stamina. High punch output drains energy, and low stamina reduces your speed, power, and defense.

Bruisers 2D Boxing fight HUD with each boxer's stamina bar, heart rate in BPM, and the round clock

The HUD at the top shows each fighter's stamina bar and heart rate (BPM). When your bar drops and your BPM climbs, slow your output.

Defend, then take your opening

Block the target your opponent is attacking, or tap Block at impact to create a counter window. Use Push to make space and Clinch to rest or slow your opponent. At close range, both fighters switch into inside fighting: punches slow down, making timing and counters especially useful.

Back off when you are hurt

Dark screen corners signal that you should retreat. If you hear a heartbeat and your fighter slows, clinch or move away. Chasing another punch here leaves you fighting with reduced defensive ability when stamina is low.

Fight for a stoppage or a decision

Unanswered damage can bring a referee stoppage, while accumulated damage can bring a doctor stoppage. If the bout reaches the judges, landed punches, punch types, activity, rocked states, and knockdowns contribute to scoring. Constantly throwing is costly, so make your attacks count instead of treating volume alone as the goal.

You now have a first-bout routine: manage range, attack with energy to spare, defend, and recover when hurt. Continue with Bruisers 2D Boxing tips to build on that routine.
